DIY Body Butter

After many batches of body butters we have found that this recipe works well as it’s not too greasy.

The reason for this is we have chosen carrier oils that have finer molecules and soak into the skin well, not leaving too much residue on top of the skin. The addition or arrowroot powder also helps with the greasiness. We also like to add a little bit of beeswax to help the butter to stay firm in warmer conditions. Our choice of essential oils for this batch of body butter were lavender, tea tree, frankincense and wild orange. But the choice is yours!

Ingredients

2 tbs Apricot oil

2 tbs Argan oil

2tbs Jojoba oil

6tbs Shea Butter

6tbs Cocoa butter

3tsp beeswax

6 tsp arrowroot powder

30-35 drops of essential oils of choice

Combine the butters and beeswax in a glass container and melt over a double boiler. Add the apricot, argan, jojoba oils and arrowroot powder and mix well, making sure there is no lumps from the arrowroot. Let the mixture solidify. This can be hastened by by putting the mixture into the fridge or freezer, but don’t let it get too hard as you won’t be able to whip it up later. Once firm use a hand mixer to whip up the butter. Half way through add the essential oils of choice and continue whipping. Making sure that you get right into the corners of the bowl. Once you have finished whipping transfer into your storage containers.
